Points of Pride
2024 All County Art Competition
CCPS and the Department of Fine Arts held the 2024 All County Art Exhibition. Our 4th grade scholar, Katarian Wilson’s piece, Green Chameleon, won 1st place in the 3rd-5th Grade category.
Our scholars are more interested in becoming active with their Art within our school. We have had many students show interest in joining our very own Art Club!
Donuts With Dad
In January of 2024, Mr. Scott hosted a jam packed Donuts with Dad event. We had activities such as Donuts with Dads Bingo and our Keynote speaker was Dr. Ralph Simpson.
We had such a huge turnout from our Dads! So many fathers showed up, we ran out of room to sit everyone. We now have plans to make the event bigger than ever for next year!
Ranking in World Languages Competition
The 4th annual World Languages Competition and Showcase was held in March of 2024. More than 300 students competed and submitted work in the following categories: Art, Drama, Music, Poetry, Extemporaneous Speaking, Extemporaneous Reading and the Vocabulary. We had several scholars place at this event in the following categories: World Language Trivial Bowl (1st and 2nd Place), Vocabulary Bee: Spanish (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and Vocabulary Bee: French (2nd Place).
Many of our scholars have a new found excitement for their elective/special: World Language! This competition provided many students with an opportunity to represent our school for the first time and see World Language as more than just an elective.
Topical Talks Global Discussion Festival
Fifth grade SCORE students at Mt. Zion Elementary competed successfully in the Topical Talks Festival presented by The Economist magazine. The Topical Talks Festival is a series of global discussions among students and schools on important topics facing society. Students join discussions and earn points according to the depth and acumen of their responses.
The class was small, but proved to be mighty when they ranked 8th place internationally in the small class size division. Our scholars now have a stronger sense of pride and esteem in not only themselves but also our community due to them successfully competing globally.
Basketball Playoffs
Our very own basketball team had a very successful 2024 season! They competed rigorously and made it to the elite 8! They placed 7th out of all elementary schools in the district!
Many scholars were rooting for our team to make it all the way! Student and Teacher involvement increased which led to everyone coming together to show their school spirit at each game!
